The scarf is crafted from a blend of Himalayan wool sourced from local farmers and fine merino wool. It is very special as the wool is hand-spun by Bhotia women in the Himalayas near Gangotri. The yarn is first hand-dyed with natural dyes and then hand-woven into this beautiful scarf.
There may be small variations in size as it is made on a handloom. There may also be some inconsistencies in weaving and dyeing, which add to the character of the scarf. The length is about 78 inches (198 cms) and the width is 12 inches (30 cms).

We make beautiful hand-woven woollen scarves for women and men in the Himalayas. They are made from fine, pure merino wool (19 microns) and, in some cases, very fine merino (17 microns), blended with Himalayan wool from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The fine merino gives the scarves softness, and the Himalayan wool adds to the character. Using the combination, we can weave scarves that are soft, warm, and comfortable to wear. They are ideal for both everyday wear and special occasions.
Our handwoven scarves are made on traditional handlooms in villages around us in the Himalayan foothills. The weavers, who belong to traditional weaving families, produce the most beautiful scarves. However, they are not perfect like machine-made scarves. There are irregularities in the weaves, a characteristic of hand-made products. These are not defects but add to the beauty and value of these scarves.
We weave with three weave designs: Twill (the most common), Herringbone, and Diamond.
We make three kinds of wool scarves: those in which both warp and weft are of mill-spun wool; those in which the warp is of mill-spun wool while the weft is of hand-spun wool; and those in which both warp and weft are of hand-spun wool.
Scarves made entirely from mill-spun wool are lighter and finer, with a smooth finish. Scarves woven with hand-spun wool, on the other hand, are thicker and have more body. They are very soft and will keep you warm in cold weather.
To make scarves from hand-spun wool, we work with women from Dunda, a village near Uttarkashi in the Himalayas. They hand-spin our wool on traditional spinning wheels. Although slow, hand spinning preserves the fibre’s natural qualities and gives the finished scarf its unique texture and softness.
Like our other products, scarves are woven with wool coloured with natural dyes. The wool is coloured with natural dyes, giving each scarf its own subtle beauty and individuality. The dyeing is done in Kaplani village near Mussorie in the Himalayas. Our master dyer, Makhan Prasad, created both subtle and vibrant colours, which make our scarves the most desirable accessories.
We use a number of natural materials for dyeing. These include madder roots, shellac, indigo, tea, tesu flowers and harada. The dyeing is done entirely by hand; slight variations in shade may occur. This makes every scarf unique. Natural dyes also create colours that age gracefully, allowing the scarves to develop even more beautifully over time.

Our standard-size scarves measure 78 inches (198 centimetres) long and 12 inches (30 centimetres) wide.
Our small scarves measure 50 inches (127 centimetres) long and 10 inches (25 centimetres) wide.
The larger scarves are especially good for protecting you from a serious cold winter.
Our scarves are really special. They are made from pure wool, with no synthetics. The wool is a blend of very soft merino and wool from Himachal Pradesh. It is very soft and full of character. Not only are the scarves handwoven, but most of them are also made with hand-spun yarn.
Natural Dyes add another dimension to the beauty of our scarves. Unlike chemical dyes, the colours are not harsh. They are also environmentally friendly.
How to care For Your Handwoven Scarf From Himalayan Weavers
• Do not Dry Clean. The shades may change due to harsh chemicals used in dry cleaning.
• Do not wash in a washing machine.
• Hand-Wash gently in tepid water using liquid soap. Do not rub or wring while washing.
• Spread flat when drying.
• Do not dry in direct sunlight. Colour may fade.
